Mondays Memories

I had the pleasure on Friday to celebrate with my dear friend Lisa who became a Grandmother for the first time, her daughter gave birth to a beautiful baby Boy, they have blessed him with the name Byron weighing in at 9lb 6oz. It was very special for me to share this amazing time with her!
Congratulations to my wonderfully talented son in –law who along with his team mates won the knock out grand final on the weekend. I felt very proud indeed watching him play on TV cheering him on.......even though he couldn’t hear me it was very exciting!

So my friends I have enjoyed an abundance of joy over the past couple of days sharing in the happiness and celebrations of friends and family.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend and share it here with me!

Mondays Memories

I have been so busy doing the things I love these past four days! My weekend started Friday with a lovely photo shoot that I will post a little later in the week. DreamTime Photography Art is soon to be launched on the web sooo excited! Thanks to everyone for your lovely comments on my photos of the Teddy Bears Picnic I hope you will continue to give me some feedback as I will be posting my work every Friday......as Fridays Photos.

Saturday we had the beautiful five grandchildren and spent the day at Mooloolaba beach, the older three love riding the waves into the shore, while our smallest two enjoy getting their hands all mushy in the wet sand and crashing down Poppas Bears sand castles so funny!
Sunday we celebrated our second youngest granddaughters 3rd Birthday we brought her a microphone stand that plays music while she can sing along.......and sing and dance she did! Our little performer kept us entertained in laughter for hours. These children fill my heart with so much love.....I only have to think of them and my life feels so complete!
How did you spend your weekend hope you share it with me!

Mondays Memories

I’ve had a lovely few days we have enjoyed dinner and way too much wine with our beautiful friends still reminiscing and laughing till our bellies hurt.
Over the weekend we had our five gorgeous grandchildren stay over as the older three are now on school holidays, so I’m hoping to talk their parents into leaving them for an extra couple of days (wish me luck). Although I must say my house looks nothing like it did before they arrived, though I do love the sound of little voices around me and of course all those hugs and kisses!

It is amazing just how many you can fit into one queen size bed, in fact we found out Sunday morning you can have two adults lying completely on their sides with a half inch to spare before falling out, while two small children lie sideways across the bed on top of your legs until you no longer can feel them, and three little ones in between the two adults so there you have it seven can uncomfortably fit in our bed at once............ Just so you know the little ones slept soundly!

I Hope you all had a lovely weekend and share some of yours here with me!

Go Somewhere

We have been waiting for our dear friends Steve and Lynette to arrive they have been travelling around Australia for the past ten months. Steve was our groomsman at our wedding thirty years ago we use to live in the same town together and would see each other all the time. Since our move to QLD we haven’t seen them for nearly seven years so we were very excited that they were planning to spend time with us on their way back home.

They are staying in Noosa for the next two weeks so the past three days (hence no posts from me!!) we have had so much fun showing them around the beautiful sunshine coast and hinterland, they have fallen in love with Mooloolaba’s lifestyle and beaches (who wouldn’t) when you’re an old time surfer! Though our day with them in Noosa was very special for us too, in fact every time we visit there it always brings back beautiful memories for us as this was where we celebrated our honeymoon and often go for lunch and a walk along our beach just to soak up the love all over again!

How precious it is to go back in time remembering the good old days when we were young and fearless. I had forgotten some of those adventurous almost crazy things we use to do, like towing a surfboard behind boats while we tried to surf the waves at outrageous speeds. How we would drive some three hours to the snow fields at 2 am in the morning because they hard the best pies, even though it was winter and minus 5 degrees none of which seem to matter at the time!
We have been inspired listening to the stories of all the places they have visited on their travels around Australia, it kind of makes you stop and think how short life really is and I for one want to achieve my entire bucket list. Problem is that list seems to get longer!

How about you! I would love to know if travelling is on your list.

Mondays Memories

Saturday the 10th September 2010 was the day our 5 th grandchild was born first child for my Son and his lovely partner, a beautiful little girl I feel so truly blessed to have been a part of the births of all my grandchildren seeing each one of them take their first breath is something that I will always be forever grateful for and never forget.

Celebrating number fives 1st Birthday this weekend with family and close friends was very special. Looking back over this past year watching our little one grow has gone by in a blink, though each day with her is entrenched in my heart.

Sunday has always been my favourite day of the week waking up next to the LOML and enjoying breakfast together is what I look forward to all week. In the afternoon we decided to go for a walk along the esplanade grab a coffee and watch the waves roll in.
How did you spend your weekend, hope you share it here with me!

In The Garden

Yesterday I decided it was time to do some pruning in the garden we live on just under an acre surrounded by trees and mostly natives on our property we are lucky that it doesn’t take a great deal to keep it looking beautiful with gloves and boots on into the garden I venture.
After about an hour, along came our postman so I thought I would walk up and retrieve the mail. Then there it was one very long Python crossing our driveway, in our six years here this is the first snake I have come across! I decided to go and get my camera to take a few photos. By the time I came back it was making its way towards a small tree....after showing my family the photos, with most comments being OMG how brave you were to stay there and take them........I had to come clean and admit I had my mega zoom lens on........and believe me I felt very nervous every time it moved!! I had a rest from the gardening today......just to give it a little bit of time to find its way back to its real home!!!!! I hope!

What’s the worst thing you have found in the garden, please share it here!

Mondays Memories

A Fair to Remember
Saturday was a beautiful day spent with the little ones at their fair we enjoyed watching our two eldest grandchildren perform their Hip Hop dance with their class. Then it was time for fun rides on the slippery slide, Char Char, dodgem cars, large ferries wheel just to mention a few.
We had fairy floss, hot dogs, soft drink, ice cream, hot chips, steak sandwiches, donuts; it seems everyone wanted to eat something different that day, as they do.  Of course we had to have some souvenirs to take home the boys wanted light sabres, number 1 grand daughter chose a fairy doll while number 2 princess decided on a pink teddy.  We really loved watching them having so much fun and listening to the excitement in their voices as they tried to explain how each ride felt on the way home in the car.
Sunday Fathers Day started off with bacon & eggs for breakfast with the LOML.  Then it was off to the beach with our two children and five grandchildren. This was also the first father’s day celebration for my son which made it that little extra special. We played cricket......and I might add the girls won yippee!
Magic box was filled with balloons, bubbles, and water pistols this time, just for a little extra fun. We had a lovely BBQ lunch snags, potato and noodle salad with some fresh bread rolls.....just delicious. I also couldn’t resist packing some chocolate muffins in the picnic basket. It was very relaxing though my favourite part was watching our children, enjoying precious time with their children, a feeling that’s hard to describe!
Hope you share how you spent your father’s day with me.

Sunshine Lolly Pops

Spring is in the air the sun is warming up with daylight lasting longer.....got to love that. I’m so looking forward to this weekend our grandchildren have their school fair on this Saturday so fairy floss rides and a whole lot of fun is music to my ears!

Top it off with Fathers day this Sunday and a picnic with my children and five grandchildren just warms up my heart endlessly. It’s always such a wonderful feeling when you have special events to look forward to.

I  have already started to think about what I will wear and plan all the surprises to put into the magic box that’s what I call the little wooden box I always take on picnics for the little ones. I’m thinking of some bubbles, beach ball, cricket set and of course the yummy food for the picnic basket. There is nothing that surpasses spending quality time with family listening to the sounds of laughter enjoying good food and relaxing with the ones you love!

How about you what are your plans for Father’s day I would love you to share them with me.

Mondays Memories

On Saturday I had such a lazy morning it was raining so I decided to give myself breakfast in bed, just because I could!  Looking over more magazines trying to make some decisions on the bathroom colours and to have shelves or not! The final decision is......... shelves it will be colour theme blue gray and white!

The afternoon was spent watching movies on the lounge and I must admit I found myself having a little nanny nap.....woken up with a little kiss and some red roses from the LOML......now I really did think I was dreaming, but they were for real both the kiss and the flowers..........I just felt so special to be married to such a loving man!
Sunday and the sun was shining four of our five beautiful grandchildren are coming to spend the day with us, so I’m the happiest GG (that’s what they call me short for gorgeous grandma) don’t you just love it!

Of course I fill their tummies with all their favourite foods, as GG’s do. We started with ice cream at 11am followed with fairy bread sandwiches and chocolate cake for lunch, lemonade and popcorn for afternoon tea.......Oh did I mention lollies and chips in between!  Our time together is also filled with fun actives, going to the beach or park and lots of love, kisses and laughter too.

Besides they receive all the nutritional food they need from their parents daily.  My physiology is to spoil the grandchildren as much as the parents will allow!!

How was your weekend? Hope you share yours here with me!

Bathroom Progress

I have made some progress my friends! Firstly thank you for all your suggestion and ideas I gained a lot from your comments and emails. My custom made vanity is now been built it should look amazing can’t wait to see it finished.

Steve the builder had such a happy face when he arrived today but the LOML thought he had not only aged somewhat before leaving that he also looked like he had lost some hair from scratching his head so much! I thought he was very kind and understanding, however he did give me more homework to do.........floor and wall tiles, bath, shower and size must be chosen and ordered ASAP...Oh dear!! A decision on adding built in shelves to the wall must be made by Monday.

Anyway I have decided to worry about all that later, as I’m so busy still looking at all the lovely bathrooms out there!! After all I did make a decision on having the vanity custom built.

Some beautiful things I found yesterday.

Tell me my friends should I have built in shelves like in the top left photo??

Decisions Decisions

It’s time to make some very hard but necessary decisions, in three weeks I’m renovating my bathroom everything will need to be removed even the floor.
For the past month I have been to every tile and bathroom centre on the coast visited three bathroom specialist in Brisbane brought twenty yes twenty magazines on bathrooms and still I can’t decide!!!!

On Friday I have a meeting with our builder who would like to know what I have decided, such as layout for the shower bath and vanity. Woops need I say I must have some answers for this poor man.
I know I want a freestanding bath however where to place it? I’m waiting for a quote on a custom made vanity (depending on quote) colour for tiles is a tossup between blue/gray or black & white or just white.

Bits and pieces of my new bathroom

So you see I’m in a panic and need your help!! On all things bathrooms tips advice past experiences you may have encountered.

Mondays Memories

I have been so busy these past few days in the most wonderful way!
Friday was an exceptional day every year my grandchildren’s school celebrates Grandparents Day I practically love this day. It gives the children an opportunity to share with us all the work they have achieved throughout the year. We have morning tea with other grandparents and teachers afterwards (the scones are to die for). I believe the children also display a sense of pride in introducing us to their teachers and friends, I just love the feeling that they want everyone to know who we are, it’s really a magical day spent with all three little ones!

Saturday was just as special, the LOML and I have been trying it organize a lunch together for weeks now and finally it happened. We decided to take a trip up to Montville a little town we both adore visiting. We normally have lunch at one of the charming little cafes and on the way home stop at the beautiful lookout, the view is so serene it’s like you’re on top of the world. This time we decided to take a picnic and have lunch there, it was perfect we had it all to ourselves soaking up the sun good food and time together.

Sunday morning waking hearing the rain on our tin roof is always a lovely sound knowing you can just roll over and cuddle the one you love for as long as your heart desires is a beautiful start to any day!
How did you spend your weekend hope you share some of it here with me.

The World At Her Feet

I had the most amazing time last night with my beautiful daughter and grandaughter at her ballet concert. Grandaughter number one has a love for dancing any kind of dancing jazz, ballet, tap, hip hop, it truly doesn’t matter the name if it can be performed to music number one will dance her little heart out for you.
For almost a year now she has spent hours upon hours practising including late night rehearsals for this two hour show to be performed in front of hundreds of people over 3 nights.

I spoke to her minutes before going back stage and was about to say just remember your steps and you’ll be fine......before I could even utter a sound from my mouth.......she said.........wow look how many people came to watch me it’s going to be fantastic I’m so excited. “Well wash my mouth out” what pressure what nerves I thought!! ......Realizing then I guess it was me who was a little nervous for her.
I can’t really describe how watching this little 8 year old perform meant to me. Of course she looked gorgeous in her tutu ballet shoes with sparkles in her hair and I was extremely proud of her. I couldn’t stop thinking how this little one showed ability well above her age to be on stage in front of so many people remembering all her steps and poses she had the whole rhythmic dexterity happening (I must add taking two extra bows on her own blowing kisses to the crowd)........bless her, she made me cry and laugh!

What I realized was how self confident our young ones are these days, it  just astounds me with their no fear attitude.
The concert was magical the best Swan Lake performed by 8 to 12 year olds I have ever seen......grandmothers are allowed to be biased!!!!!
Share how you feel when your children perform or compete do you get a little nervous like me?

Old Trunk

Every so often I enjoy opening my old wooden trunk that holds my precious memories of days gone by. Today was one of those days when I just couldn’t walk past it without getting the key and immersing myself in all that was locked inside.

The first thing I saw was my 30 year old wedding gown, pictures drawn from my children, old school photos, scrapbooks, beautiful cards and cherished handwritten letters from my grandmother parents and friends.

It was the letters this time that I spent most of the day rereading and remembering the contents of the letters and each occasion that they were describing. I couldn’t help thinking how much I miss receiving beautiful handwritten letters in the mail and how I missed writing them too.

I remember sending letters with a pressed flower inside or a little spray of perfume, with those special coded messages written on the back of the envelope such as S.W.A.L.K. (sealed with a loving kiss) or H.O.L.L.A.N.D    (hope our love lasts and never dies)

Although I accept how we have evolved technologically with the ease in which we can communicate now through instant messaging via mobile phones, twitter, emails, facebook, blogging and Skype. I can’t help but wonder if we have lost some of the finesse of the writers of years gone by.

How about you do you miss receiving handwritten letter?

Generosity

Giving to others I believe is an essential part of our happiness. It is beautifully achieved in these and a thousand other ways for free.
You may want to add to this list, I hope and share it!

Allowing yourself to be fully present

Accepting people as they are
Visit a friend and enjoy the company
Forgive the person that hurt you
Encourage someone that’s feeling down
Sharing what you know
Listening with all your heart
Show compassion
Be interested in what others have to say
Offer a little helping hand
Share what you don’t need anymore
Hold out your hand and enjoy the touch
Be the smile they need to see

The Right To Speak

As a Mother and Grandmother I love to talk about my precious ones on any subject their strengths, special talents how beautiful they truly are, the funny stories they tell you with such expression or those other acts they perform in front of everyone and you’d wish the ground would open and swallowed you up.

While at a BBQ gathering yesterday I had much delight in sharing a funny story about number 3 grandchild who is a very special little boy....with a very funny personality. I repeated the events of his first day at prep when the teacher told the class that they needed to pack up their toys to get ready for home time......with excitement he asked her what his pocket money would be at the end of the week....... (You see he likes to negotiate this at home each week) she replied you don’t get paid little man this is school you come here to learn.

Number 3 grandchild had obviously thought about this during the night. The next day when his mother went to wake him for school.........he said, I’m not going back, his mother asked why did something happen? Which he said....and I quote.......You Bet Ya ......she said what, he replied........ They don’t pay you there to pick up toys and put things away, so I won’t learn much, I’m going to stay home with you mummy I learn so much more and you pay me LOL!!!!

I had most people laughing except for one couple who replied........out of the blue, this isn’t going to be one of those parties were we all stand around telling stories about our kids and grand kids is it?.......well you could have cut the air with a knife. You see, although they are new friends to our crowd and seem lovely, out of the twelve couples that were present they are the only ones that don’t have any grandchildren they do have two grown sons that are both in the federal police. I should point out here that we had already discussed the economy, interest rates, football, travelling and cars.

O dear, I thought since I was the one telling the story I should be the one to answer.........I very politely said I’m sorry it must be hard not to have grandchildren to enjoy in your life, where us grannies here love to exchange stories of our time with our little ones.

To my surprise they replied they couldn’t think of anything more boring........ok so I was gob smacked....speechless and was a little quiet for the rest of the night!!

Today I found myself thinking....Is it just me or do others think the same?

I believe it’s a natural occurring emotion between women to feel the pure joy of watching your children grow and develop and share these special milestones with everyone or anyone that can appreciate the endless love you feel for them. Even if this means detailing every small step they have taken throughout their life and repeating it several times. I believe it’s our god given right to do this until we are to old to speak and no longer have any memory.

What do you think? I hope you will share your thoughts......On the night I was silenced in Wendy’s world!!
